‘Man Can Cook’ is a new project designed to teach cooking skills, reduce social isolation and increase mental wellbeing amongst men.
A group of volunteers at Triangle Community Garden in Hitchin want to start a cooking project for men in our community. We have identified that, for various reasons, many men are not equipped with the skills to cook for themselves. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to look after themselves by cooking and eating a balanced diet. We want to prove that bereavement, age, disability or cost of living don’t have to be barriers to eating well. We want to offer regular classes for people of all ages and abilities to learn how to prepare delicious and nutritious food. We hope that this new project will build a community of men who are able to support each other to live better lives. In addition to learning to cook we want these classes to provide opportunities for men to reduce social isolation and improve their mental wellbeing.
Man Can Cook will be run from Ransoms Pavilion and we’re launching a Crowdfunder to help us make it happen. The aim is to start our first block of six classes next spring.
– A £25 donation will pay for a weeks ingredients for the project
– A £50 donation will pay for one man to attend 6 cooking classes
– A £75 donation will pay for branded Man Can Cook aprons for all participants
– A £100 donation will pay for an eco friendly induction hob for use during the project
– A £250 donation will pay for a set of pots, pans and cooking utensils
We are aiming to raise £1000 to run our first 6 week block of Man Can Cook. If we raise over this amount it will allow us to reduce our overheads and get better value from each donation. Please help us deliver this much needed project for our community.
The Crowdfunder will launch in September so wtch this space!
