Drop off your donated apples – weekends only please!

Do you have surplus apples in your garden? Could you pick and donate them to help us raise money for our projects?

Every autumn we accept donations of peoples’ surplus apples from gardens across Herts and Beds. We take them for juicing, bottling and labelling and then sell the juice at our Apple Day on 17th October, at Phgura General Store or at our monthly Growing Ability  stalls. The profit goes straight into back running our projects.

Eaters, cookers, unidentified – we don’t mind as long as they’re ripe, unbruised and delivered to us in cardboard boxes (preferable shallow) not plastic bags. No crab apples please! How do you know an apple is ripe? Gently twist the apple on its stalk and it will come free if it’s ready. We accept windfalls if they are not bruised eg if they’ve landed softly on grass but not if they’re bruised or rotten as one bad apple can turn the whole box rotten in a very short time. Just like the saying!

Please note there is only one drop off point this year, and as usual a number of weekends from September to mid-October that we accept donations:

Please leave your boxes on the drive (in a shady location if possible). The juicing run will take place on Monday so please don’t drop apples off Monday-Thursday as they will have to wait a whole week before being taken for juicing.
