This summer we held our first Summer Scheme for young people with additional needs. Branching Out ran for two half-days per week and was attended by 8 young people with a range of support needs, across the summer holidays.
They had a choice of activities and spent time doing horticulture, watering and harvesting veg, planting seeds, preparing and cooking fresh food, litter picking, basketball, nature observation, mosaic making, drawing and painting, making signs and writing.
Two of the young gardeners wrote a blog for us about their time at Branching Out:
“We growing carrots. We are growing trees. We love playing in the park and playing games. We are best friends forever.
We like doing signs. We love cooking and baking and getting messy. We are making a sandwich but we’re using the head. We love watering plants and weeding and hide and seek in the woods.
Thank you Rory and Chloe. Here’s some of the feedback we received from parents and participants about Branching Out:
“[My son’s] time here has really benefitted him with making friends and being part of the local community. All the staff and volunteers here are what make the Triang Community Garden such a special space for so many people to enjoy”
